Revenue

Ads, affiliates, services or products: what fits first?

Ads need traffic, services validate demand early, affiliates need disclosure, products need proven demand. How to choose your first revenue path.

Display ads are simple for the reader but usually need meaningful traffic. A focused service can validate demand much earlier because a small number of clients may be enough to prove that the problem matters.

Affiliate links fit only when the product is directly relevant and the incentive is disclosed. A digital product should come after the same problem has been solved repeatedly, not before.

  • Ads: low friction, traffic dependent.
  • Affiliates: relevant recommendation, disclosed incentive.
  • Services: higher effort, faster validation.
  • Products: scalable only after genuine demand.

Ads reward traffic — model the range first

Ad revenue depends on audience location, topic, season, viewability, ad demand and policy status. Use your own pageview and RPM assumptions to model a range: monthly pageviews ÷ 1,000 × page RPM. This is a planning calculation — it is not a guarantee, quote, or prediction from Google. Try the revenue estimator.

Before applying for AdSense

Approval is Google's decision, and no site can guarantee it. A polished foundation reduces avoidable problems and makes a site more useful even without ads:

  • Own and control the domain — a stable domain you can verify and maintain.
  • Publish substantial original content — first-hand knowledge, not copied or mass-produced filler.
  • Make navigation obvious — readers should quickly find topics, author information and policies.
  • Add privacy and consent controls before personalized advertising where required.
  • Check every policy area and fix restricted content before applying.
  • Protect the reading experience — ads should never imitate navigation, cover content, or encourage accidental clicks.
